Health and fitness are aspects of our lives that we are guilty of having, “want it now syndrome” in. Weather it be related to fast weight loss or getting huge we want it now and we don’t want to work for it. Take a look around and notice how prevalent weight loss surgery and steroids have become. Things that at one time considered fringe extravagances and left for the uber obsessed are now common place.

People always over estimate what they can do in the short term and underestimate what they can in the long term. Health and fitness are glaring examples of this premise played out everyday. Very few people ever run marathons, sculpt the body they really want, or achieve other high levels of fitness because they don’t stick with it. But if you go to a gym the day after new years you will see dozens of people in there overdoing it based on a new years resolution. They will often spend hours in the gym for the first couple weeks of the year chasing a goal that will lead them quickly to burn out.

While it can be challenging to break through the plateaus of fitness to really reach high levels of conditioning what it really takes is consistency. If you exercise 3 to 4 days a week for 30 to 60 minutes and continually increase your intensity you will make gains. They key it to always make improvements and keep challenging yourself.

When I say always make improvements don’t think I mean to keep adding more weight until you are lifting a house. You must use variety. One week you may focus on adding weight, the next week you may focus on flexibility, and the next week cardio. When you return to weights you may find out that your strength has decreased a little bit. That is fine because you added conditioning in other areas and it is not practical to think that you will be able to continue adding weight indefinitely. Your body needs breaks to recover and you will reach a point at which your body is maxed out. Continue pushing past these max outs but realize that the other components of fitness will assist in getting past these plateaus.

What you want is the full package which will greatly assist in your long term goal of fitness. If you work on all of they systems muscle gain, fast weight, and any other type of conditioning will be simple.
